A truely beautiful looking combat tunic that has been modified, for what I believe to be a “walking out” tunic. This is an M40 tunic, that is very similar in appearance to the M36, but has subtle differences. The collar on this tunic has been re-fitted with a dark green M36 style collar, and the correct later war litzen has been sewn on. This tunic would have had a later breast eagle, and you can see traces of where it has been. I believe that the original owner took off the eagle, and had an earlier eagle re-sewn on. It appears to have been machined stitched, but in fact has carefully been hand sewn.
When the M40 was introduced the litzen was devoid of branch colour. Capped with some pre war “87th  Division” inf boards (no colour piping). The wearer of this tunic would have been proud to “walk out” Originally the tunic came from the St Petersburg museum (capture stamps inside) and is in great condition. Looks fabulous on a mannequin
