This is one I’m letting go from my small collection – I have decided to part with this one, as it has had an interesting life. WW2 Japanese Wakizashi short sword, and sharp!

The blade is fully signed on both sides  Tenpo ju san nen or the 13th year of Tenpo, and has a lovely chrysanthemum on it.  The blade is dated February, 1843

The fittings are standard WW2 fitting, where it was common practice for officers or NCO’s to use a family blade and re-fit it for wartime use.

The blade would benefit from a sympathetic polish, and has one small “nick” to it. The fittings are nice and tight with the brass Tsuba and sharkskin handle complimenting the ensemble .
