Here we have a very large and a very rare grouping for a serious Luftwaffe Pilot who was involved in the war from its inception in 1939 until 1945. Walter Kirshmann was born in  August 1913, and this grouping plots his life from the early beginnings working for the German Railway until 1948.

The group consists of :

·      Luftwaffe Pilots licence signed by Oberst Rudolf Petrauschke and alsoOberst Ulrich Buchholz, later Generalleutnant DKiG

·      Pilots Badge  citation signed by later General der Flieger Gustav Kastner-Kirdorf DKiS

·      EK II citation for May 1940 (Battle of France) signed by later Generaloberst Bruno Loerzer PLM

·      EK I  citation for September  1940 (Battle of Britain) signed by later Generaloberst Bruno Loerzer PLM

·      Spange in Bronze citation  signed by later Generalmajor Herbert Rieckhoff RK

·      NSKK membership book for westfallen

·      Driving licence dated 1937

·      DLV membership card 1936 with photo and many stamps

·      RAD workbook

·       Luftwaffe pilots flight books for 1937, 1939, 1943

·      1948 ID card

He was shot down during the Battle of France with Stab Staffel, KG 2…the Staffelkapitän Hptm.      Schulte-Frohlinde was his Beobachter/Observer

After the end of the Battle of France all German PoWs were returned and he would have continued flying.

He could have had 20 to 59 combat missions as the clasps were not the introduced until April 1941

After training for heavy bombers he was transferred on 3.4.1940 to IV/KG 2 for crew continuation training then to Stabstaffel and 9 Staffel/III/KG 2. 1942 he was no longer with a combat unit and from 1943 he was with an Aircraft Ferrying unit

Sadly the flugbuch with the Battle of France and Battle of Britain entries is missing, but this is one of the most comprehensive and interesting groupings we have had.
