Krupp was a renowned manufacturer of U boats, battleships, tanks etc, and a supporter of the Nazi regime. Having a workshop very near to the Auschwitz work camp, Krupp was reaping the benefits of cheap labour by using 100,000 inmates. Alfried Krupp was convicted as a criminal against humanity for employment of prisoners of war and concentration camp inmates in inhumane conditions in work connected with the conduct of war. He was sentenced to twelve years imprisonment, but served three and was pardoned. The company later rose to become one of the wealthiest in Europe.
