This is an absolutely stunning example of a very hard to come by item of HJ interest.

Many of these Trumpet Banners can be seen with the towns on the reverse – I have had a few – but rarely does one come across something that speaks volumes to quality and construction. Remembering that these were usually locally made and not mass produced, this one is stunning in hand and the photos do not do it justice. It is grubby in parts, and has great workmanship throughout. Heavy silver type thread borders the flag, and it has 4 black cotton ties to the top – multi piece construction throughout – and very soft to the touch

The yellow background on one side together with the Black Lion denotes either the region of Flanders – Who were very pro German during the period – or possibly the town of Dresden or even Leipzig. All of which used the black lion on a yellow background

The Flemish legion used completely black lions on a yellow background, opposed to the Flemish state and the Flemish provinces that used the red. I also have a copy of “Ook Gij” which translates to “You Too” It’s purpose was to recruit readers into joining the ‘Vrijwilligerslegioen VLAANDEREN’ and the front cover clearly shows the type of lion on the banner

I have been informed that the HJV never had this type of banner – but no photograph proof exists either way!!!
